My week was pretty eventful, but it was all about work. Now, inasmuch as I want to talk all about work for my weekly roundup, I made a resolution to distance my blog from my occupation. Something I plan to write about next week perhaps. But for the mean time, here is how my week went.
I realized (too late) that a weekly currently that asks you about what you're reading forces you to read a new book every week. So, yes, I am still stuck in Gone Girl.
I've also read an article from NYMag.com quoting Nigerian novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie:
If you start thinking about being likable you are not going to tell your story honestly, because you are going to be so concerned with not offending, and that’s going to ruin your story, so forget about likability. And also the world is such a wonderful, diverse, and multifaceted place that there’s somebody who’s going to like you; you don’t need to twist yourself into shapes.
I think this goes well with the new blogging philosophy that I have. And I'm happy that an acquaintance (who's kind of big in the blogging world) noticed that I was blogging again and liked that I have a "I don't give a fuck" attitude about it anymore. Because at the end of the day, I am not writing for anyone anymore. I am writing to be honest, to be brave.
The Crazy Ones still. I'm close to finishing it with only 3 episodes left before the finale. I'm awfully sad that there won't be anymore episodes to look forward to, for obvious reasons, and that it was cancelled before its prime. I really have high hopes for this one. It has the right amount of comedy - slapstick, situational, contextual - that makes for a great serialized comedy TV show.
Go on another vacation. Who doesn't want to, right?
I actually had a full day of watching TV this week, so yay! Now I just want to get over Gone Girl and move on to a new book. Don't you just love that moment when you finish your book and you get to choose what to read next?
Get a new exercise regimen! As much as I loved yoga last year, it's getting too tedious for me to do. I need a workout that's 30 minutes tops. Cardio, preferred.
That I got the chance to listen to Lisa Macuja, the only Prima Ballerina in the Philippines, talk about passion. She talked about how her ballet teacher told her how she's never going to be a ballerina and how her Russian ballet teacher told her she will never dance Swan Lake because she's short and very Asian looking - only to defy all of them.
Hearing a world-class Filipina talk about how she got where she is just ignited my passion for the things I want to accomplish in life. I've had a lot of people not take me seriously, not believe in me, and not listen to me. But as Lisa said, have passion for what you do, commit, put a lot of hard work, and practice to succeed.
And that's how my week went!
So what did you do this week?
I'm also on Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram, if you want to connect ;)
