'New Girl' is my new 'The Office'

When New Girl first came out, I hated it. I thought Zooey Deschanel was being too quirky to the point that it's too absurd. The ensemble cast is not just working for me. The idea that Summer from (500 Days of Summer) looked like she OD-ed on her meds to become Jess Day in New Girl is an alien concept that my mind refuses to accept. For me, New Girl is best explained in one of the reviews that I read about Zooey before: It's Zooey Deschanel playing Zooey Deschanel. And when did the term adorkable became socially acceptable?

But things change.

Thanks to Star World doing a back-to-back episodes of New Girl every Wednesday and me being friendless in the city and at home on Wednesdays, the said events snowballed and made me change my mind about the show. I saw bits and pieces of New Girl in a span of two weeks and my mind was completely blown!

How did I miss this? How did I miss the awesomeness of Schmidt's Leisurewear Mono? Of  Wilson singing Defying Gravity (I die!)? Of the angst that is Cece/Schmidt and Jess/Nick? Of "I'm a sexual snowflake. Each night with me is a unique experience"? Of how everyone seemed to be shouting at everyone? Of Fancy Man? Of how everyone really is just an adolescent trying to grow up, as aptly and eloquently told by The Atlantis in The End of Adorkable: "New Girl" Grows Up.

I'm not saying New Girl is the best comedy around. I'm saying it's the best comedy ever! it's my new The Office.

You see, The Office and I had a long history of me being awkward because I crack The Office jokes that no one gets, of me trying to convince everyone to watch The Office (I am thankful that Z has finally caught up), of me live write-blogging episodes, having asked relatives to have The Office merch flown all the way from the US to my doorstep, and of me basically spazzing over it. It was real and obsessive.

I'm not yet into the of The Office proportions level of commitment to this show. Come on, the merch are not even that cool, but consider this my fair warning that this might get real.

So whatchadoin?
